VMware to Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization Migration
Real Time - 10 Days
CubenSquare Customized Workshop
Plan, migrate, troubleshoot and operate virtual machines with the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization
VMware to Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization Migration ( prepares administrators to move virtual machines from VMware vSphere to Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization. Students first learn to create and manage virtual machines on OpenShift, then plan and run cold and warm migrations with the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV), troubleshoot failed migrations, and validate migrated workloads.
Every chapter combines short lectures with guided exercises and an end-of-chapter lab. The course ends with a comprehensive review in which students migrate a two-tier application end to end.
Audience
- VMware vSphere administrators moving workloads to OpenShift
- Linux and Windows system administrators
- Platform and infrastructure engineers running migration projects
- Solution architects and consultants planning VMware exit strategies
Prerequisites
- Working knowledge of VMware vSphere (VMs, datastores, port groups, snapshots)
- Linux command-line skills (RHCSA level recommended)
- Basic understanding of containers and Kubernetes is helpful but not required
After completing this course, students will be able to:
- Describe Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization and map VMware vSphere concepts to OpenShift
- Create, access and manage virtual machines, including networking, storage and live migration
- Install and configure the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization, including VDDK and providers
- Assess source virtual machines and build network mappings, storage mappings and migration plans
- Perform cold and warm migrations of Linux and Windows virtual machines
- Explain how virtual machines, disks, networks and guest operating systems are converted
- Automate migrations with hooks and migrate from OVA files and multi-network virtual machines
- Troubleshoot failed migrations using logs, events and diagnostic data
- Validate migrated workloads and plan migration waves and rollback
By the end of the course you will:
- Run a VMware-to-OpenShift migration project from assessment to cutover
- Choose between cold and warm migration and manage downtime
- Build accurate migration plans with the right network and storage mappings
- Diagnose and fix failed migrations quickly
- Validate workloads after migration and roll back safely when needed
- Operate migrated virtual machines on OpenShift with confidence
